Douglas A. Brook, visiting professor of public policy, has received the 2021 Richard Stubbing Award for teaching and mentoring of graduate students. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to the teaching mission of the graduate programs of the Sanford School, including the MPP, the MIDP, and the PhD programs. The nominations are submitted by alumni and current students of the Sanford graduate programs.

One alumnus wrote, “Professor Doug Brook changed my life for the better by helping me make connections with individuals in the Defense Acquisition policy field. Professor Brook gave me the space to explore my interest in defense acquisition as my thesis advisor. His budgeting class was one of the most memorable and eye-opening courses at Sanford. I would not be where I am today - working at the Pentagon in the Office of the Secretary of Defense - were it not for Professor Brook's support and encouragement.”

A current MPP student wrote, “Prof. Brook is incredibly invested in his students' personal and professional development. He freely gives up his own personal time by providing feedback on draft papers, speaking one-on-one with students, and attending events (i.e., panels) that feature his students. He is most known to this year's PUBPOL 803 section for his endearing e-mails -- he randomly sends news articles to his students related to their unique policy interests.”

Brook was honored during the ceremony recognizing the graduate classes of 2021 on May 5 in Cameron Stadium.
