Belton Moore MBA/MPP’26 will serve as one of Duke University’s newest young trustees, adding another Sanford-connected leader to the Duke Board of Trustees.
Duke University announced five new trustees on July 1, including Moore, who was nominated by the Graduate and Professional Young Trustee Nominating Committee. He graduated from Duke in May with a master of Business Administration and a master of Public Policy.
Moore grew up on a family farm in Robeson County, North Carolina, and is an enrolled citizen of the Lumbee Tribe. At Duke, he focused on the intersection of business and public policy and on how global economic change affects local communities. He co-founded the Business & Policy Club, served as president of the Native American Graduate and Professional Student Association, and co-chaired Fuqua’s Blue Devil Weekend.
Before Duke, Moore worked with Governor Roy Cooper’s Hometown Strong initiative and the Native American Agriculture Fund. He earned his undergraduate degree from NC State University, where he was a Park Scholar. He will join Boston Consulting Group as a management consultant this fall.
Moore will serve as an observer during his first year on the board and will have voting privileges in his second year.
At Sanford, Academic Services Coordinator Devonte Keith praised Moore’s steady leadership and commitment to his classmates. “Belton Moore embodies the Sanford way: balancing the rigor of a dual degree program while consistently showing up as his best self for his fellow students, not only as a core economics tutor and general support, but also as a hard-working advocate with the kind of dedication that made a real difference. His appointment as a Young Trustee is a well-earned recognition of someone who leads with both intellect and heart, and I couldn't be more proud to have known him.”
Sanford professor Mac McCorkle also said Moore stands out among the strongest students he has taught. “Belton is not just one of the best students I have ever taught; he is one of the most impressive individuals I have ever met. He will be an outstanding member of the Duke Board of Trustees.”
