Human Resources Director
Sumetrice Porter is the HR Director for the Sanford School of Public Policy. In her role she oversees the efforts to advance our workforce and positions the school to meet our strategic goals. She is the trusted counsel to our senior leadership team and advocates on behalf of all of our employees. In addition, Sumetrice is responsible for policy development and interpretation, performance management, staff development, salary administration, position classification, staff engagement, talent acquisition and serves as the ECERT administrator.
Prior to her service at the Sanford School, she served as the HR Manager at the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO)at Duke University Health System where she managed all aspects of the HR life sphere. Before that role, she spent 5+ years in the University’s Staff & Labor Relations Office from 2001-2006 where she coached and advised management and non-management employees on employee relations, performance management, training and development and change management. She earned her Master's of Public Administration (MPA) with a Human Resource Management concentration at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a B.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from Elon University. Sumetrice has her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification, as well as professional affiliations with Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and American Society of Public Administrators (APSA).
