Director of International Student & Academic Services, Master of International Development Policy
Kristen Aquilino brings over 10 years of experience in International Education to her role as Director of International Student and Academic Services within the Sanford School. At a young age, Kristen began exploring the globe. She continued to feed her cultural curiosity by studying abroad in Santiago, Chile, later followed by teaching abroad in Sevilla, Spain. Upon returning to the U.S. to complete her master's degree, she was introduced to her current work through a graduate assistantship within international student and scholar services.
Kristen completed her undergraduate career at the Pennsylvania State University in psychology and international studies, and her master's degree in international education policy at the University of Maryland. Prior to joining Duke University, she served as Director of International Student Services at Elon University. In addition to the heart of her work serving the international community, Kristen engaged with study abroad programming through supporting interactive media courses in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, and co-teaching travel-embedded Wilderness and Adventure Therapy courses in Peru and Tanzania.
In the Sanford School, Kristen enjoys supporting both the international and domestic student communities and the learning that takes place every step of the way. This encompasses everything from visa and immigration guidance and academic program administration, and the mentorship and advocacy work involved in student services. Kristen is thrilled to work alongside colleagues and community members to help cultivate holistic educational experiences.
As someone who thrives outdoors, Kristen enjoys spending much of her time in nature. If she’s not hiking, you can also find her reading, baking and engaging in new experiences with family and friends.
