Visiting Scholar

Demet Seban is a visiting scholar for the spring and summer semesters of the 2024-25 academic year at the Center for Child and Family Policy at  Duke University,  Sanford School of Public Policy, with sponsorship from The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK). Collaborating with Dr. Katie Rosenbalm, her research project is part of the ongoing Resilience and Learning project developing trauma-informed educational practices in North Carolina, focusing on expanding this work into educator preparation programs to equip incoming teachers with trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices.

Dr. Seban is an Associate Professor at the Education Faculty of Akdeniz University. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University, specializing in elementary education. Her research interests center on teacher education, including pre-service teachers’ identity development, reflective and culturally responsive teaching practices, and language and literacy education—particularly teaching writing and critical literacy in elementary schools. Currently, her work focuses on social justice education and trauma-informed education, exploring how teacher education programs can both address pre-service teachers' well-being and prepare them to implement trauma-informed practices in their future classrooms.
