Communications Director, World Food Policy Center

Deborah Hill serves as the communications director for the Duke World Food Policy Center at the Sanford School. She leads strategic planning, supports research proposal development and qualitative research efforts, and manages outreach and social media. She also produces The Leading Voices in Food podcast series.

Deborah has more than 30 years of experience in communications, science writing, and strategic planning. Prior to joining the center, she served as Associate Dean of Communications at Duke University’s Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. Prior to this position, she was the Director of Communications and Marketing at the Pratt School of Engineering, where she was instrumental in raising the national visibility of engineering at Duke through publications and digital media. Her work has been recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Before joining Duke in 2003, she worked in research administration, communications and science writing positions at the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory for subsidiaries of Westinghouse and Lockheed Martin. She was also a contributing correspondent for Science Magazine’s ScienceNOW online news section, and InHerSight.com. She holds a B.A. degree in anthropology.
