Senior Associate Dean for Finance & Administration, Central Administration Office

David Arrington has served in the role of Assistant/Associate Director (when it was the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy) and now Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration for the Sanford School since August 1, 1999.  In that role, he serves as chief financial and administrative officer for the entire School.  David provides administrative management and coordination of business functions such as finance, information management, budget development, grant administration, human resources, facilities, and space utilization; also oversees and manages construction and renovation projects.

David received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration (emphasis in Accounting) from The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1981.  He is a Certified Public Accountant, having obtained his CPA license in 1985.  In addition, he is a certified mediator for the University’s Staff and Labor Relations Office, and also has obtained his Research Costing Compliance (RCC) certification in the area of financial research compliance management.

Prior to joining the Sanford School, David worked in a number of other University units spanning a 30+ year career, including the Capital Assets Office, Procurement Office, Grants and Contracts Post-Award Office, the School of Medicine Business Office, and CFO/Business Manager for a non-profit organization affiliated with the University called The Organization for Tropical Studies.
