RefugiARTE Exhibit

09.12.2019 @ 12:00 am

RefugiARTE is an exhibition of editorial cartoons from Latin American artists that reflects the journey of people fleeing conflict and persecution, often risking their lives, travelling by land or sea to reach safety. Editorial cartoonists are powerful opinion makers in our society. They use their humor to express their commitment to human rights causes, the fight against xenophobia and ensuring that all cultures and freedoms are respected. This exhibition conveys their support to people forced to flee.

The exhibit, located in the main hallway of Rubenstein Hall at the Sanford School, is on loan from the UN High Commission for Refugees. The exhibit is open during normal business hours. It is presented by the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center, to coincide with the Thursday, Sept. 19 visit and guest lecture by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, to Memorial Hall on UNC's campus.

The exhibit is sponsored in part by Duke Center for International Development (DCID), and Duke University Center for International and Global Studies (DUCIGS), and Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy. The art featured in this event promotion is by Anabella González from Argentina.
