John Hood serves as president of the John William Pope Foundation, a Raleigh-based grantmaker, and chairman of the John Locke Foundation, a public policy think tank. He is also a syndicated columnist for 70 North Carolina newspapers, a TV host and panelist, the author of seven books, and a contributor to such publications as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, National Review, The New Republic, The Chicago Tribune, Reader’s Digest, and Military History.

Hood’s current research interests include state and local politics, the modern conservative movement in America, interdisciplinary approaches to public-policy analysis, and the future of public-service journalism. His previously published books explored issues of corporate social responsibility, the interaction of investment and political behavior, the practice and morality of advertising, economic-growth policy, family history, and the history of Republican politics in North Carolina.
