Ravtosh Bal

Ravtosh Bal is visiting faculty at DCID teaching science, technology and development policy. Ravtosh completed her PhD in Public Policy from the joint PhD program at Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University. Her research interests include science and technology policy, science, technology and development, participatory technology assessment, emerging technologies and responsible innovation.

As a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Engineering in Society, Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, she has been associated with a research project that seeks to understand how computer science research capacity is being developed in Kenya and Uganda and the role computer science plays in supporting socially and economically relevant innovation. As a research assistant at the Technology Policy and Assessment Center at Georgia Institute of Technology, Ravtosh conducted research on participatory technology assessment projects such as the World Wide Views on Global Warming (a global citizen deliberation project organized by the Danish Board of Technology and held in 38 countries to gather citizen input on climate change policy ahead of COP15) and the National Citizens Technology Forum on NBIC technologies (a multi-site citizen engagement project on emerging technologies).

Prior to her graduate studies in public policy, Ravtosh spent a decade working for the Indian government in expenditure control, internal audit, and budgeting. She also has M.Phil. and M.A. degrees in Sociology from the University of Delhi.
