Carolyn Barnes, assistant professor of public policy at the Sanford School, has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 William T. Grant Scholars Program. Ten early-career researchers were selected from a pool of 52 applicants by the William T. Grant Foundation
The program begun in 1982 supports the development of early-career researchers in the social, behavioral, and health sciences. Barnes plans to research how local political economies in rural communities shape policy implementation and how well families access safety net programs, and how these factors influence child development.
Four to six winning scholars will be announced in March. Selected scholars will each receive $350,000 over five years to support their research.
