Public Purpose Symposium - Lunchtime Roundtable Discussions

Join the Hart Leadership Program for the second annual Public Purpose Symposium as we celebrate and explore community-engaged research and leadership in conversation with Hart Leadership Program students. Undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff are welcome to sign up to attend one of three lunchtime roundtable discussions facilitated by past Hart Fellows, Sarine Krovitz, Carina Lei, and Sadie Sheridan. ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS Facilitator: Sarine Krovitz (T'26) Title: Public Art as a Tool for Social Action Description: What role can participatory art play in grassroots organizing? What do movements gain when they center community building, dignity, and joy? Join us for a conversation about arts-based methods of social change and community development with insights from Sarine's work with Fundación CasaSan in Argentina. Facilitator: Carina Lei (T'26) Title: Mental Health, Civic Action, and Collective Care Description: Mental healthcare is a practice that extends beyond the clinic walls. Communities shape both causes and recovery. How do we learn to take care of one another at the collective level? How can a reimagining of care through community inform healthcare systems? Drawing on Carina's work with the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA), this conversation will explore how civic action can foster care systems that enable our communities to thrive.
