Speaker

Michèle Flournoy

Please join us for a conversation with Professor Peter Feaver and Michèle Flournoy on American strategic defense policy. In the wake of U.S. troops withdrawing from Afghanistan and the subsequent Taliban takeover, competition with China and tense relations with Russia, what challenges and opportunities lie ahead in American security? Michèle Flournoy has spent her career formulating national security policy and advising presidents on military operations. In 2009, she became the highest-ranking woman in the history of the Department of Defense. She served as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy from February 2009 to February 2012 and led the development of the Department of Defense's 2012 Strategic Guidance. Flournoy has represented the Department in dozens of foreign engagements, in the media and before Congress. In January 2007, Flournoy co-founded CNAS, a bipartisan think tank dedicated to developing strong, pragmatic and principled national security policies. In 2017, she co-founded WestExec Advisors, a strategic advisory firm.
