Philip Napoli, James R. Shepley professor of public policy, has received the annual Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Book Award for his latest book, Social Media and the Public Interest: Media Regulation in the Disinformation Age, published by Columbia University Press. The award was established in 2020 to recognize an outstanding book written by a BEA member in the field of broadcasting and mass communication.  The award is given at the annual awards ceremony, which was held virtually this year.

A faculty affiliate of the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media & Democracy, Napoli’s research focuses on media institutions, regulation and policy. He has provided expert testimony on these topics to the U.S. Senate, the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and the Congressional Research Service.
