On behalf of all of us at the Sanford School of Public Policy, I send best wishes to our community and friends in 2022. Despite the uncertainty and challenges we are all continuing to experience in our world, the new year brings hope and opportunity. I share these signs of hope with you.

First, Sanford continues to mark 50 years of public policy education and scholarship at Duke. Every day, our alumni are battling injustices, lifting up people who need support, doggedly working for policy change to help communities and constantly making our world a better place. Looking back over 50 years and the challenges our founders overcame, I see tremendous hope for the future of public policy to meet our current world challenges.

In addition, the excellent work of our community and students fills me with excitement and hope about the year ahead. For 50 years, we have been delivering on our mission to improve lives and communities, researching the most pressing public policy issues, and preparing students for lives of leadership, civic engagement and public service. Sanford’s Strategic Priorities are our map to create change. I invite you to view our recent annual report for many examples.

Finally, academia brings constant moments of opportunity. This summer, we will congratulate graduating students, welcome new students, orient new faculty and launch our executive Master of National Security Policy program.

Sanford continues to look forward – with the knowledge that we have overcome many challenges in 50 years and will continue to face challenges head on. Our past helps inform our actions and inspires us to keep going. With the strong support of our entire community and with this perspective, I send hope to you in 2022 and beyond.

Warmly,

Dean Judith Kelley
