Congratulations to the Sanford Class of 2022!

 May 6, 2022

Our newest graduates are the definition of outrageous ambitions, a phrase that our namesake and founder Terry Sanford coined 50 years ago. Each graduate weathered extremely challenging circumstances and endured dramatic current events to complete their Sanford degree. We also congratulate their families and loved ones, who have offered their support during their challenging academic journey.

This May, Sanford recognizes more than 300 graduates from five academic programs:

    • 187 undergraduates receiving a bachelor’s degree in public policy (PPS)
    • 78 earning Master of Public Policy (MPP) degrees
    • 29 receiving International Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) degrees
    • 16 earning Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) degrees
    • And 6 earning doctorate degrees in public policy (PhD).

This resilient class includes award winners, thesis writers, global changemakers, scholarship recipients, innovators of policy solutions, and more. I encourage you to learn more about our 2022 graduates at this link.

We welcome our new graduates into the supportive and successful network of 9,000-plus alumni in more than 100 countries. Each graduate will live out Sanford’s mission: improving lives and communities by researching the most pressing public policy issues, becoming leaders in communities, engaging in civic affairs, and applying hard-earned skills and knowledge in service to society.

Given the resilience already exhibited while at Sanford, I am confident that these graduates are unstoppable and well prepared for whatever policy challenges ahead. Now, more than ever, the world needs policy graduates to provide analysis plus action.

We applaud the Class of 2022, graduating in the 50th year of public policy at Duke!
