Celebrating 2020-2021 Accomplishments
Dear Sanford Community,
As we celebrate 50 years of public policy at Duke, we are getting even more excited about the impact we can have in the next 50! More than ever, we need great public servants and people in all sectors who are trained to appreciate the tough challenges we face and solve problems collaboratively.
As you will see in our new annual report, Sanford faculty, staff and students are meeting today’s challenges head on. This past year, our faculty tackled crucial questions around health and social inequality, race, technology, media and democracy, climate and environment, national security, and global development. Our students wrestled with policy issues outside the classroom. Even more impactful, Sanford’s 9000+ alumni in more than 100 countries are actively addressing these issues too at the local, state, national and global levels. This past year, we profiled alumni problem-solvers from North Carolina to India and beyond.
The pandemic did not stop us from pursuing our outrageous ambitions. We launched new programs and initiatives, broke records in enrollment, and increased our media appearances and policy briefings. Sanford’s performance last year would be noteworthy under normal circumstances, but being able to celebrate such progress in a pandemic environment is energizing. We are extra thankful to our friends and supporters who responded by investing more than ever in our mission last year, and indeed, to the many friends who invested in us over the decades to make today’s Sanford possible!
No matter what obstacles are in front of them, Sanford students, faculty, staff alumni and friends are committed to making this world a better place. Thank you for all your support.
Onwards!
