We're looking for mid-career professionals who have an interest and passion to work in development-related sectors and want to help tackle complex policy problems.
Admission to the Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) program is competitive and based upon the applicant’s academic and professional credentials, letters of recommendation, and English proficiency.

The priority deadline for fall admission is January 5. Applicants who apply by this date will be considered for merit-based, departmental tuition scholarships. After January 5, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, based on applicant qualifications and space available until April 15. We encourage all candidates to apply as early as possible.
For spring, we accept a limited number of applications for admission through partner universities. Applications should be submitted by October 1.

What We Look for in MIDP Candidates
- A strong academic background that demonstrates the capability to successfully undertake rigorous graduate-level studies. Duke University requires the completion of a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent to be eligible to apply.
- A professional background which shows an increase in responsibilities over time. We strongly prefer that candidates have development-related experience. We recognize the interdisciplinary nature of international development. Past applicants have held positions in U.S. and foreign government agencies, NGO’s, public international organizations, private corporations, the U.S. military, and the U.S. Peace Corps.
- A well-written essay which demonstrates a commitment to working in development and a deep awareness of development issues.
- Strong letters of recommendation from professional and/or academic references, which speak in detail about the applicant's skills.
- Strong written and oral English skills are essential to succeed in the MIDP program.
Professional Experience Requirement
for the traditional program option (2 years)
- At least five years of professional experience.
for the Accelerated program option (3 semesters)
- At least five years of professional experience AND
- The equivalent of one-year of completed graduate-level coursework in a relevant field.
Out of respect to the years of experience and knowledge our students bring with them to the program, we refer to MIDP students as MIDP fellows. You will learn as much from your peers as you do from your professors!
