An Exciting Opportunity

The joint M.Div./M.P.P. program provides a unique and exciting opportunity to understand, critically examine, and work faithfully at the interface of the world of public policy and public administration and the world of churches and faith-based organizations. It equips students to navigate points of tension and overlap between these two spheres so that they can help generate a more resilient, just and generous common life in which all may flourish.

- Luke Bretherton, Professor of Theological Ethics and Senior Fellow, Kenan Institute for Ethics

This program has a non-blended tuition rate, which means the student is only charged for tuition and fees at the school you are enrolled in for that semester. Sanford tuition fellowships amounts will be disbursed in equal installments each semester in which the student is enrolled full time at Sanford. You must maintain good academic standing. We reserve the right to amend this tuition fellowship award if you receive other funding or change degree programs.

Tuition for the final two semesters of study in year 4 will be charged proportionally to enrollment in each school. Therefore, Sanford scholarship amounts will be prorated based on the actual Sanford enrollment per term in year 4 of the program. Scholarship amounts will not exceed Sanford tuition charges.

Please see our cost of attendance page for more information on MPP tuition and fees per term and by academic year

Student Story: Noah Vaughn

Noah's personal story is behind his dual degree. His two brothers were addicts, and Noah grew up going to visit them in prisons and rehab. One brother died of an opiod overdose, and the other died due to gun violence. Noah is passionate about organized religion (it's why he chose Duke Divinity) but he decided to get a degree in public policy too. He's interested in making systemic change -- the kind that might have helped his brothers.

"I think what I’m seeking is how to prevent that same harm from being done to others," he says. "And I think that's why I'm here at Sanford, to learn how to do that."
