MIDP Career and Professional Development

A summer internship or consultancy for traditional, two-year MIDP fellows is a required component of the program. Internships are optional for accelerated degree seekers.

Successful internship and job searches are usually dependent upon the search and application strategy applied and the student’s professional background. Utilizing the services from Sanford’s Career Services team will ensure that you are familiar with the resources available to you, U.S. employment protocols and processes, and are overall better prepared for a potential job search.

Throughout the year, MIDP and Duke Center for International Development (DCID) staff and faculty are networking and meeting with colleagues in the development field. They have a wide range of experience and networks in the development field - from tax policy to humanitarian assistance to rural development issues. Fellows are encouraged to approach MIDP and DCID faculty and staff regarding their own professional interests and goals. For many, this is the first step in meeting people or organizations within a field or region of interest. Teamwork between students, alumni, faculty and staff is strongly encouraged.

MIDP fellows intern with a variety of organizations around the world including the International Organization for Migration, U.S. Institute of Peace, World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Asian Development Bank, UNICEF, Partners Global, Heifer International, Oxfam, and the Organization for European Development and Cooperation.
