The Sanford School of Public Policy holds as a core value that public policy research, engagement, and education work best when multiple and varied viewpoints are well represented. We identify, learn about, and address societal challenges most effectively when we prioritize integrating diverse perspectives. Individuals and populations whose lives and experiences reflect the broad range of social phenomena we investigate, teach, and propose to address must have legitimate seats at the policy decision-making table. To this end, Sanford’s Committee for Inclusive Academic Excellence is committed to working collaboratively and in close relationship with invested partners to create and secure a broadly defined academic environment promoting a sense of belonging for ALL community members. Committee for Inclusive Academic Excellence
Following Duke University's Inclusive Excellence Principles and Guidance, the work of Sanford’s Committee for Inclusive Academic Excellence (CIAE) supports an inclusive environment and informs efforts related to faculty, staff and student recruitment and retention, education, and the broader Sanford experience.
The CIAE seeks to foster a welcoming environment where people of all backgrounds — regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, country of origin, immigration status, socioeconomic status or faith orientation — can participate fully and authentically. The committee includes faculty and staff co-chairs, a graduate assistant, and volunteer students, staff and faculty members. We host trainings, lectures, forums, film screenings and other programs, and regularly collaborate with Sanford student organizations, including Policy in Living Color, Sanford Women in Policy and PridePol.
