Taylor Appointed to National Academies Committee

January 6, 2017

Donald H. Taylor, Jr. professor of public policy, assistant professor of community and family medicine and associate professor of nursing, and Kevin A. Schulman, professor of medicine, business administration and global health, have been appointed to the National Academies Committee on Health Care Utilization and Adults with Disabilities.

The ad hoc committee will analyze how health care utilization may be used as an indicator of impairment under the Social Security Administration’s definition of disability. The goal is to identify how individuals’ use of the health care system interacts with severity of a disability that may prevent a person from working. The committee’s findings will help the SSA create improvements in methods of determining eligibility for disability benefits.
